Many people develop skin tags on various parts of their bodies. Skin tags aren’t dangerous, and there are no associated medical risks. However, the look of skin tags may bother you.

If you want to get rid of your skin tags, many natural options are available. You don’t have to go to a dermatologist to remove them. In fact, tea tree oil is a great way to clear up your skin!

Tea tree oil has a great reputation for assisting with many skin conditions like pimples, blemishes, dandruff, athlete's foot, and fungal infections. Read on to learn about how to get rid of a skin tag at home with tea tree essential oil.

Using Tea Tree Oil for Skin Tags

Tea tree oil (Melaleuca alternifolia) is a popular essential oil known for its healing properties. Some people call this oil melaleuca essential oil. It smells earthy and comes with many health benefits. The oil is harvested from an Australian tree and has been used for thousands of years by the native population of Australia.

The scientific community has not widely studied the effects of tea tree oil on skin tags, but some evidence suggests that it can help. We’ll get into this more in the next part of the post.

The Effects of Tea Tree Oil On Skin Tags

  • Tea tree oil eliminates skin tags by dehydrating the skin. This drying effect not only works on skin tags but is effective in treating acne and other skin conditions.
  • Once the skin is dry, the skin tag starts to fall off. This is similar to a cosmetic procedure where dermatologists use a suture to suffocate the skin tag and dry it up. Doctors usually take the skin tag off with a surgical knife. But at home, you can use a piece of dental floss.
  • Really, this is a cheaper and simpler treatment option. You don’t have to go out of your way to meet with a dermatologist. All you need to do is buy some tea tree oil at the store.

Benefits of Using Tea Tree for Skin Tags

Tea tree oil is a great natural treatment for skin tags. But this substance also has other great medical properties that you should consider. Other skin tag remedies won’t be as beneficial for your skin!

For instance, tea tree is known to have antimicrobial properties. When you apply tea tree on your skin to treat skin tags, you are also disinfecting your face. This along with its dehydrating effects clears the skin of pimples and other blemishes.

Tea tree oil also boosts your immune system. So applying it to your skin for skin tag treatment can help ward off infections and viruses. And if you have any cuts or scrapes, having this oil around can be helpful. Tea tree is useful for skin healing and helps keep germs out of wounds.

Other Essential Oils for Skin Tags

There are other oils besides tea tree oil that you may want to try as well. With essential oils, sometimes you need to do some trial and error to find what works best for you and your body. Oregano essential oil works well but the smell is a little to much for me and it is a hot oil so it needs to be diluted very well.

  • Oregano oil
  • Lavender oil
  • Lemon oil
  • Lavender oil
  • Frankincense oil
  • Basil oil
