Melt and Pour Soap Base

Melt and Pour soap bases are especially great for beginners or those DIYers that are not committed to crafting cold process soap (ME!!). They work really well with essential oils too.

The process to make soap at home is simple as well. To use melt and pour soap, all you have to do is cut up the soap block, melt it down, add color and scent as desired, then pour into your chosen soap mold. Lastly, it will need to cool and set.

I am using Goat's Milk melt and pour base because it has hydrating and nourishing properties. Here is the one I like:

Lavender Essential Oil Soap Recipe

Lavender essential oil is a versatile oil that can be used in many different ways. One way to enjoy the benefits of lavender essential oil is to use it in soap recipes.

Lavender Essential Oil Soap Recipe is easy to make and only requires a few ingredients. Lavender helps to soothe the skin and has a calming effect. This soap is perfect for use in the bath or shower, and it makes a great gift.

To make this soap, you will need:

Step 1: Cut up soap block with a sharp knife into small squares, this helps it to melt quicker. Place the cut up soap into glass measuring cup.

Step 2: Place measuring cup into a pot with several inches of boiling water. You do not want rapid boiling because that can cause water to splash into your soap base.

Step 3: Stir occasionally until base completely melts (no solid chunks left). Takes 10-15 minutes. Once melted, remove from heat using a pot holder because the handle will be hot.

Step 4: Add in essential oils and stir well. I used Vanilla Absolute and Lavandin Essential Oil from Edens Garden. If you want to skip the vanilla you can, just use 70 drops of lavender essential oil instead. I like the sweet scent that the vanilla adds.

Step 5: Pour soap into soap mold. I filled 5 heart molds with this recipe. Immediately spray the exposed tops of soap with rubbing alcohol, this helps to pop the bubbles so the soap is smooth on top (see the picture). You can get the heart mold I used here.

Step 6: Let cool until soap hardens, usually about 2-3 hours. Pop soap bars out of silicone mold. The unused soap bars will need to be wrapped in plastic wrap for storage to avoid having them sweat (also called glycerin dew).
