Is stress free traveling during the holidays even possible? The crowds. The lines. The delays… OH MY! Traveling during the hectic holiday season can sure bring on a case of feeling stressed out and overwhelmed.
However, with a little proactive thought and creativity, it IS possible to enjoy stress-free traveling during the holidays. The holidays are meant to be a time of joy and relaxation, so don't let the stress of traveling interfere with that. Follow these tips and have a happy holiday season!
Stress-Free Traveling During the Holidays
It's the most wonderful time of the year, but it can also be one of the most stressful. If you're anything like me, you start to feel overwhelmed as soon as Halloween is over. The holidays bring additional obligations and expenses, not to mention the pressure to have a perfect holiday season.
Check out these tips that will have you traveling like a peaceful pro throughout the holidays:
1. Be Prepared
Activities: Download your own entertainment so that when you find yourself waiting (or dare we say delayed)… you have something to enjoy.
Food: Avoid hanger and the ridiculous airport and rest stop prices by packing your own snacks and meals. Nuts, seeds, and fruit make great travel snacks.
Water: Bring an empty water bottle through security at the airport and fill it up in your terminal. Staying hydrated will keep your body and brain happy and healthy. ALWAYS travel with a reusable water bottle!
2. Take a Break
Make sure to take a moment every hour to pause, stretch, and take a travel break. Long flights and car rides can definitely be a challenge for your body so always show your body some love and care by taking a short and rejuvenating break to move about and get your blood flowing.
3. Account for Added Time
Traffic happens. Delays happen. Avoid the stress and worry by giving yourself extra time to get from point A to B. If you arrive early - great!
Enjoy a coffee or take a rest. And since your prepared yourself with activities, food, and snacks you will handle these unforeseen nuances of travel with ease.
4. Keep it Simple & Pack Light
Traveling with only a carry-on bag means you won’t have to worry about the hassle of checking in your bags or worrying about lost luggage. If you check-in online then having only a small bag allows you to head straight to security and skip the long airline check-in line!
There are many resources and tips on how to pack light. Simply search Youtube or Google to find one that works for you.
5. Be Cozy
Keep yourself cozy by dressing in clothes that make you feel comfortable. Bring layers to avoid feeling too chilly in terminals and airplanes. For long flights make sure to bring an eye mask, earplugs, and neck pillow.
Don’t forget to pack your favorite essential oils, such as lavender or cypress, that you can massage on to your pulse points to create instant coziness while traveling. This lavender roll on will work great for on the go!
6. Keep Track
Know your travel plans, write them down, and keep on top of the details. Enjoying stress-free travel during the holidays will require you to have a sense of organization in regards to knowing your itinerary. Use apps to keep you on track, such as Google Maps (pin to save and label your destinations), and TripIt (organizes all your travel itineraries and documents so you have everything in one place).
Take PHOTOS and place them in a cloud of all of the documents, credit cards, and items you are traveling with... this includes your suitcase and it’s contents! If something happens you will have easy access to this information.
It’s also important to save your receipts while traveling so that you can reconcile your expenses after the trip to ensure all charges were authorized and correct. If you are traveling internationally make sure to contact your bank and credit card companies to alert them of your travel.
Above all, enjoying stress-free traveling during the holidays is not possible unless you maintain your focus and energy on what the holidays are all about… love, togetherness, and making new memories.
Therefore, if you find yourself feeling frazzled during holiday travel, choose your own personal mantra or quote to help bring you back to being calm and centered, such as:
"The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart. Wishing you happiness." - Helen Keller
Wishing you a wonderful holiday season.
