A close relative of Atlas Cedarwood, Himalayan Cedarwood tree is a symbol of strength and abundance. When used in Aromatherapy, it offers grounding effects and balances emotions. Cedarwood Himalayan essential oil is prized for its calming, cleansing, and harmonizing properties. 

The sweet, yet woody aroma of this oil is especially loved during the winter months. It has excellent properties for supporting and maintaining a healthy respiratory system. It helps to remove phlegm from the lungs and ease congestion. Perfect oil to use if you have a cold or cough.

Cedarwood Himalayan is versatile and powerful but there is a wonderful gentleness to this oil. It is one of my favorite oils for children.

I love all the different varieties of cedarwood, while their aromas have slight variations, they always add such depth to oil blends.

Safety Concerns Non-toxic, non-sensitizing. Some sources advise to avoid Cedarwood during pregnancy, however there is no research to support this claim regarding this particular species of cedarwood.

Cedarwood essential oil makes a versatile addition to any natural medicine cabinet and first aid kit. Its most well-known use is as a insect repellent, but it can also be used to treat skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis.

Cedarwood oil can be utilized to relieve muscle pain and tension headaches. In addition, cedarwood essential oil has strong antibacterial and antifungal properties, making it an effective natural cleanser and deodorizer.

- Place one drop in the palm of hand, rub hands together then deeply inhale the aroma to relieve stress.

- Add it to diffuser at night with lavender or vetiver to promote sleep.

- Place a couple of drops into a spray bottle with alcohol free witch hazel, shake well, and spray on face for an all natural facial toner.

- Blend with a carrier oil and rub onto your chest and neck to help with cough and congestion.

Cedarwood essential oil is generally considered safe for most people, but it should be avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Cedarwood oil should be stored in a cool, dark place to prevent it from losing its potency.

 1. Congestion Inhaler Blend

Empower the lungs with these respiratory supportive oils, they work great in an essential oil inhaler!

  • 5 drops Cedarwood Himalayan (Cedrus deodara)
  • 5 drops Eucalyptus (any variety)
  • 5 drops Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis)
  • Blank Aromatherapy

Directions: Add wick to a small bowl, drop essential oils onto the wick, using tweezers to pick up the wick, then get any oil residual left in the bowl onto the wick.   • 4 drops Frankincense (Boswellia carterii)
  • 4 drops Juniper Berry (Juniperus communis)
  • 2 drops Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus dives)
  • 2 drops Cedarwood (Cedrus deodara)
  • 1 oz jojoba oil
  • 1 oz lotion pump bottle

Directions: Place ingredients into bottle and shake to blend. To use, rub on chest. 2% dilution. For kids, cut drops in half for a 1% dilution level (2 drops frank, 2 drops juniper, 1 drop eucalyptus dives, 1 drop cedarwood).

 

General Essential Oil Precautions

Never use essential oils undiluted, in eyes or mucous membranes. Do not take internally unless working with a qualified practitioner. Keep out of reach from children.

Use essential oils with extreme caution on children, be sure you have researched the oil and that it is safe for use on kids. Plant Therapy clearly labels their oils "KidSafe" on the bottle if the oil can be used for children ages 2–10).

If applying an essential oil topically (on your skin), it is best practice to always perform a small patch test to an insensitive part of the body, use 1-2 drops in a teaspoon of carrier oil like jojoba oil, read more here.
