I love summertime... the warm weather, water activities, outdoor BBQs and summer getaways! These summer room spray recipes are inspired by all the FUN times that the season brings. Use them to add joy to your rooms and indoor spaces.
Room sprays can transform an indoor space by freshening the aroma and clearing out stale air. Plus, smelling essential oils is a fabulous way to gain the healthy therapeutic effects that aromatherapy offers.

Room Spray Base Recipe with Essential Oils
For room spray recipes, I like to use a water base, it is simple and easy. Distilled or filtered water is best to use because tap water may contain contaminants you do not want in your room freshener.
Some DIYers like to use witch hazel or vodka as a base or an additive for room spray blends. I use grain alcohol in my room spray recipes as a preservative.
Ingredients Needed:
- 15-20 drops of Essential Oils
- 1 tablespoon Grain Alcohol (like Everclear)
- Distilled Water
- 2 oz Glass Spray Bottle
Step 1: Add grain alcohol and essential oils to the spray bottle, I like to up to 20 drops of oil total for this size bottle. You can use a single essential oil, a premade oil blend, make your own blend, or try one of our summer blend recipes below.
Step 2: Fill the rest of the bottle with distilled water, leaving space at the top for the sprayer.
Step 3: Shake well and label the bottle with contents and date made. To use, shake up and spray in the desired room. Shake well before each use. Best if the spray is used within one month for freshness.
How do you make a long lasting Room Spray?
Natural air fresheners do not work like chemical air fresheners, they will not last in the air as long. The scent will fade but it is important to remember this and the fact that you may need to spray homemade blends more frequently.
If you are looking for a longer-lasting aroma, you may want to try an aromatherapy diffuser to freshen up a large space for a longer period.
It is important to note that essential oils and water do not mix. Be sure to shake the bottle before each use.
